Jianjing: A Harmonious Blend of Office and Cultural Space

Designed by Gaofeng Zhu, a Silver A' Design Award Winner

Located in Suzhou, China, Jianjing is a 160-square meter space that embodies the concept of an "elegant and plain home". Gaofeng Zhu has masterfully incorporated natural, simple, and courtyard elements into the design, creating a state of quietude and calmness. The design is unique in its approach to balance the relationship between human homes and nature, highlighting the interdependence between the two.

The design process involved careful consideration of human senses to spatial elements such as shapes, materials, colors, and textures. This approach aims to evoke emotions, essences, and moods, leading to an increased awareness of the importance of natural protections and establishing a symbiotic relationship between humans and nature.

Functionality was not the sole focus of the design. Instead, the space was constructed to be open and private, plain and exquisite, invigorating and serene. The designer has skillfully divided the limited indoor space into three halls with distinct sizes and functions through temperature and humidity control. The floors, elevated at different heights, along with other spatial elements, enhance the smooth flow of air.

The design also features tall wood grille walls that extend to other areas, creating individual but continuous, varied, and intriguing indoor scenes. These scenes cater to different moods and each brings about distinct and constant characteristics of space. This was one of the challenges faced by the designer, to create something unique and never seen before in an indoor space. The solution was to create a courtyard view in a closed space, allowing the owner to experience the four seasons and feel the gentle indoor air flow and comfortable temperature without the disturbance of modern technology.

It was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2020, a prestigious accolade given to top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise and innovation. These designs, admired for their strong technical characteristics and splendid artistic skill, showcase a remarkable level of excellence and introduce positive feelings, amazement, and wonder.
